As reported by El Pais today, Kike Mesa, the director of the documentary Jesús Franco: Way of Life, announced Jesús Franco’s passing early this morning at the age of 82.

Jesús Franco was a master of cult low budget horror films and he had directed more than 200 feature and short films many of them uncredited. His magnum opus and his most influential work is probably the erotic horror film Vampyros Lesbos (Lesbian Vampires, 1971), which focused on a vampire’s efforts to seduce a young woman into her world.

Other famous works by Franco include Gritos en la Noche (The Awful Dr. Orloff, 1962) which is the first ever Spanish horror film, Paroxismus (Venus in Furs, 1969) with Klaus Kinski, Die Marquise von Sade (Doriana Grey, 1976), Die Säge des Todes (Bloody Moon, 1981) and Faceless (1987).
