Spielberg, a “Cannes regular” for Jury’s President

Steven Spielberg has been chosen to be the president of the Jury for the 66th edition of the festival that takes place in May 15-26. According to festival’s president Gilles Jacob, who considers Spielberg as a “Cannes regular”, the offer for the presidency of the Jury has been made several times in the past. The final official offer was made almost two years ago and Spielberg accepted the responsibility for the 2013 edition. Of course Sugarland Express is his only of his films that competed in Cannes and won the Best Screenplay award in 1974. In his first statement after the announcement, Spielberg said: “The most prestigious of its kind, the festival has always established the motion picture as a cross cultural and generational medium.”
