The poster of this year’s Cannes’ Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight) has been presented today. This is the 45th edition of this parallel independent section of the French festival and one of the most important.
Here is the official description of the poster by the artistic director of the Fortnight, Edouard Waintrop:
Two persons in the middle of the desert, under a distant western sky.
The epitome of Adventure. Two modern-day cow-boys in a SUV.
Or, why not, the vehicle of two filmmakers scouting locations, who briefly, forget their solitude to confront their experience and their destiny under a Fordain sky.
The Quinzaine des Réalisateurs this year will be a meeting place for creative artists in the midst of desire.
And a series of adventures, comedies and tragedies of today.
Life, indeed, but under skies bigger than life, as Nicholas Ray would put it…Movies, in short.
It seems that after the official poster of the Cannes Festival, the Fortnight follows the same aesthetics based in a black and white appreciation of the seventh art. The poster was based on a photo by Cécile Burban and Michel Welfringer was in charge of the graphic conception.
