In the Shadow wins 9 Czech Lions
The detective drama In the Shadow (Ve Stínu) by David Ondříček was the big winner at this year’s Czech Lion (Český Lev) awards. The film was nominated for eleven Lions and won nine of them including those for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ondřej Vetchý), Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Music. The film is set in the 1950’s Prague and is a drama about a police detective who starts to uncover deeply buried secrets of the Communist party while investigating a seemingly ordinary crime. The film has also dominated during the Czech Film Critics’ awards earlier this year.
The ceremony had an anniversary feeling since this was the 20th edition of the film awards. The other actors that left with a Lion were:
Gabriela Míčová – Best Actress in a Leading Role for Waste, City, and Death (Odpad Město Smrt) by Jan Hřebejk
Klára Melíšková – Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Four Suns (Čtyři Slunce) by Bohdan Slama
Ondřej Vetchý – Best Actor in a Supporting Role for County Championship – The Last Match of Pepika Hnátka (Okresní Přebor – Poslední Zápas Pepika Hnátka) by Jan Prusinovsky
Also Love in the Grave (Láska v Hrobě) by David Vondráček has won the Czech Lion for Best Documentary.
